It’s official: The Democratic Party will host a single debate in October, and it will be “a contest between Democratic hopefuls … to see who can arrive in New Hampshire earlier and announce the best tailor-made $100,000 suit,” says Politico. The Republican debates have been unruly affairs (hey, isn’t this the Trump years?), and the Democratic debates have been laughably underwhelming. So, at least it’s good to know that the upcoming “Debate” will finally showcase two good candidates, both of whom support the same goal, “to defeat Donald Trump” in 2020.
But wait! Donald Trump still has one thing to say about this whole event: “Come on the stage. Get your picture taken. Be nice. And let’s have a debate.” Unless you’re the positionally-challenged, that sounds suspiciously like “you’re a de facto Communist” type of deal, doesn’t it? After all, the goal is to defeat Trump, and a factually incorrect debate that obscures two viable and electable candidates would be a dead-letter for his own campaign. But that’s just me.
The NBC News, Washington Post and MSBNC Three-way Democratic debate will pit the top three polling candidates against each other, held in October.
Dear Donald: Please come with one of your hats and a briefcase full of cash on you, so that you can party all night, when you can barely make it down the hall to the podium. We’ll keep a close eye on you as you watch, because we’re looking for that one candidate who could give you a much-needed bump in the polls, and we know you’re looking for the same thing, but you have to show up.
The other candidates haven’t come up with the best solutions yet. You’ve thought up some silly plan to slap a block on people who burn the American flag, so as to punish Americans who like to express themselves free of taxes. Oh, Mr. Trump, your crazy idea stinks, but we’re ignoring it and focusing on other more useful ideas, which have been, as I write this, coming from people like Kirsten Gillibrand, Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker, Amy Klobuchar, Cory Booker, Amy Klobuchar, Amy Klobuchar, Chuck Schumer, and Andrew Cuomo. All these people have serious ideas that I sincerely hope will find broad support amongst Democrats.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has made the most noise, offering himself up as the perfect alternative to Trump and his destructive political agenda. Cuomo claims he’s ready to lead the Democratic Party out of its cynical and hateful malaise. However, Cuomo has spent his career protecting the interests of the wealthy while palling around with people like Chris Christie and Angela Merkel. Cuomo can’t back up his Tea Party style solutions with his economic plan, which is aimed mostly at protecting the interests of the wealthy, and at not harming the economy in the process.
However, Cuomo is far from the only one that we should be watching. Bernie Sanders is the most interesting of the candidates in my opinion, with his vision of a socialist future that would respect all people without compromising on what is right. Senator Amy Klobuchar is a mature and thoughtful politician who was put forward by Washington’s elite simply because she’s a woman, and not because she’s intelligent or able to represent the interests of her constituents. Interestingly, Schumer and Schumer are former Democrats who have switched sides and joined the Republican Party. Senator Cory Booker is a principled and intelligent politician who advocates smart and effective gun control.
But come on Donald: Can you give your Republican opponents any hope? It’s obvious that you’re scared of your own shadow, and so you’re backing candidates with absolutely no connection to America, and no commitment to the values of the republic. So, don’t let your friends at NBC or NBC News or NBC News or NBC News stop you. Fight the system, Donald. Fight the system!
